Act 32 - 40

It's been a while since I've blogged about our acts of kindness, things have been busy with returning to work but we have still been doing them:)

Act 32 - Daddy donated to the President's Choice Children's Charity

Act 33 - Donated to the United Way Campaign at work, chose the KW MS Society as the charity for my donation.

Act 34 - Smile Cookies - I bought a smile cookie for the person behind me in the drive thru on my way to work.

Act 35  - Donated to the Wendy's Adoption Charity while buying my lunch

Act 36 - Donated already read magazines to a lady collecting magazines for the cancer centre waiting room at the hospital.

Act 37 - We filled a stocking for "Stuffin Stockings" (a local organization that give stockings to people in need in the community to help brighten their holidays) We chose a girl 1-2 years old, same age as our daughter and had a great time doing this, hopefully it will make a little girl smile at Christmas.

Act 38 - My mom and I were out doing some Christmas shopping and helped an older lady reach and load some pop into her cart. It baffled me how no one in the store would help this lady, even the people that worked there. It only takes a minute out of your day to help someone and if it was the other way around I think most people would appreciate if someone would stop and help them if they needed it. Please just take a minute.

Act 39 - We visited a very dear friend in need of some cheering up and hope that it did just that.

Act 40 - We made a donation to Kidsability when taking our daughter to get her picture taken with Santa :)

Today momstown hosted a mommy and me spa day for members. There was a charge of $2 per service that is being donated to the Red Cross. Avery and I both had massages and had a great morning together getting pampered and helping the Red Cross at the same time.

On our way home from the "spa" we stopped at M&M meats annual BBQ in support of Crohn's for lunch and donated a little extra to help raise awareness for a disease that not a lot of people know about. Hope some day they can find a cure.

Don't forget to tell your mothers how much they mean to you this weekend!

Act 22: Words Hurt

Bullying happens at all ages and in all places, children and adults, school and work. I really support all of the effort being put forward to have zero tolerance for bullying. Bullying hurts and in a perfect world no one would have to be subject to such hateful actions.

While at Empire Theatres we gave a small donation to a walk against bullying they are organizing this weekend.

Do your part, think before you speak and act and don't be the bully.

I'm now at a total of 7 hours for my 50 hour volunteer goal for the year!

So many organizations count on volunteers to keep them running so if you have even an hour of spare time this year, get out and help someone in need :)

Act Seven: Wish (1 hr)

I've been volunteering with Make A Wish for five years as a wish grantor. Today I had a visit with a very nice family to discuss the child's wish. For their privacy I won't go into many more details than that.

Make a Wish has always been a charity I fully support and thoroughly enjoy every moment and every family I meet. The children have taught me so much, they are all so strong, optimistic and brave and I can only hope that in a similar situation I would be the same way, but as adults we tend to be a lot more pessimistic. It really helps me to put things into perspective, these children are wonderful role models.

This is my first act of volunteering for my year of kindness, so I have 1 hour toward the 50 hours of volunteering I'm hoping to achieve in the next year.
